I am not trying to turn this into a HT forum, but the recent news are very intriguing as there has been so much speculation about Dr. Gho's work and we finally have some pictures on his site. Give me some time and I will decide what we are going to do with with this type of discussion in the HM forum.
I agree pics of the recipient area do not look very encouraging. There are several things that seem very puzzling to me but I think people maybe jumping to conclusions:
1) Some suggested that Dr. Gho is using punch grafts in the recipient areas. I would be very disappointed if such is the case. Somehow that doesn't make a lot of sense that after so many years of research, Dr. Gho would end up introducing a technique (punch grafting) that was used in the 70s and 80s? I find that hard to believe that Dr. Gho would be so out of touch with the latest hair transplant techniques.
2) Dr. Gho stressed many times this new technique is extremely time consuming and extreme care and skills are required. Also, it takes a full day to perfom 300-400 grafts on one patient. If those are punch grafting, then it WOULD NOT make sense for Dr. Gho to say his new technique is time consuming and that a full day is required to perform 300-400 grafts. Why would it be time-consuming if this is just a punch grafting technique? Dr. Bernstein does not use punch grafting technique and he can easily perform 1,800+ grafts in one session.
3) To reinterate point # 2: from what I know (please correct me if I am wrong), donor hair extraction only takes a very small portion of the time in each session. I have spoken to one patient of Dr. Woods' and he said donor hair harvesting takes very little time and about 70% or more of the time is spent in transplanting the grafts to the recipient area. So it is unlikely that when Dr. Gho said the procedure is time consuming, he was referring to the time required to harvest donor hairs. Again, why would he need several assistants and a whole day to perform several hundreds punch grafts on the patient, - I think we are missing something here if we assume that those are punch grafting.
4) Go back to the pics on Dr. Gho's site. ALL of them are CLOSE-UP pictures. This is why they look unsightly. Incidentally, I was at Dr. Bernstein's office this morning and I went through his before and after pics album. I DID NOT see one single picture that is magnified to the same extent as the pictures on Dr. Gho's site. I believe we need to ask Dr. Gho for photos that are taken at arms' length, I am fairly certain that would paint a very different picture.
5) Out of curiosity, when I finished at Dr. Bernstein's office today, I went to Dr. Woods' website to see his pic gallery. Again, I do not see Dr. Woods post any close-up pictures like Dr. Gho did on his. Dr. Woods has a lot of pictures on his site, I went through a majority of the pictures and I could not find one close up picture that is magnified to the same extent as Dr. Gho's.
So we are comparing apples to organes when we say Dr. Gho's pics look bad compared to Dr. Bernstein's and Dr. Woods'. They are not magnified to the same extent. As a matter of fact, the pics on Dr. Woods' site are all take from a distance, I strongly strongly encourage everyone to go to Dr. Woods' site and see for yourself, they are not close up pics like the ones posted on Dr. Gho's site,
After I saw Dr. Gho's pictures, I was a bit hesitant about trying his new technique myself. But now, I am going to reserve my judgements until I speak to him and confirm that he is not doing punch grafting.
Dr. Gho will not be available till May 20th or after, so if anything, it would be another 2 - 3 weeks before we can get this clarified.
I haven't finished going through the rest of the pics on Dr. Woods' site...I will do more research and will post more info later if I see anything different.....
