Ah...now you're putting me on the spot, Matt ;-) I've been through the lipoxidil site before, and I've also observed with interest the viewpoints of the believers v/s the naysayers on alt.baldspot (i.e Emkaypee v/s Bryan). Personally, I'm more inclined to think it would work.
Firstly, to answer your question, the dermaroller makes macro-sized perforations, certainly much bigger than the molecular size of SOD. So if the SOD is able to penetrate upto the dermal-epidermal junction, there's a good chance it would reach the hair folicle. Of course, I'm presuming that a good percentage of the perforations would be likely be made directly at or around the hair follicle on the skin surface.
But even if that's not the case, I believe that diffusion below the stratum corneum plays a very important role in efficacy of topicals. From my own personal example, I apply topicals only to the vertex and mid-anterior area of the scalp, but right from the beginning, my strongest response has been at the temples (the triangle above and lateral to the eyebrows), where I don't even apply the stuff. This obviously ilustrates that the stuff need not necessarily find its way through the hair follicle to work.
I'd definitely consider using the dermaroller; the only thing that keeps me from trying it is that its not a one-time expense - you gotta keep buying it! Considering the fact that I've grown so much hair while spending only about $20 a month, I'm not too keen on trying lipoxidil products at present. But if my curosity gets the better of me, or if my results plateau, then I might.
